Monstera Brown Tips & Leaf Margins
Monstera Deliciosa (Monstera deliciosa) · Brown Tips & Edges
Dry, crispy, or dark brown margins at the leaf tips or outer perimeter.
Typically dry ambient air below 40% humidity, tap water minerals (fluoride/chlorine), or inconsistent watering rhythm.
Possible causes
- Low indoor ambient humidity especially during heating seasons
- Accumulation of tap water salts and hard minerals in the root ball
- Underwatered soil pockets drying out between infrequent waterings
- Direct intense sun scorching tender leaf fenestrations
Care steps
- Flush the root ball: Run filtered or rainwater through the pot to wash out accumulated mineral salts.
- Increase local humidity: Group plants together, use a pebble tray with water, or place near a room humidifier.
- Establish an even watering check: Water only when the top 5–7cm of potting substrate feels dry to the touch.
Prevention tips
- Use filtered, distilled, or rested rainwater for sensitive aroids
- Keep Monstera away from direct heat radiators and AC blower vents
- Repot into chunky aroid bark mix every 18–24 months
